• Certify seeds of notified varieties/hybrids
  • Monitor Production of Breeder Seeds
  • Outline the procedures for submission of applications and for growing, harvesting, processing, storage, labelling and tagging of seeds intended for certification to ensure that seed lots finally approved for certification are true to type.
  • Verify, upon receipt of an application for certification, that the variety is eligible for certification (Notified under section-5 of the seeds act), that the seed used for planting is from approved source and the application has been submitted in accordance with the procedure  for it.
  • Inspect seed production fields to ensure confirmity to the  minimum field standards.
  • Inspect seed processing units and ensure that there is no other kinds of seeds to cause admixture.
  • Inspect seed lots processed and collect samples as per procedure and subject for testing to ensure that the seed conforms to the prescribed standards for certification.
  • Grant certificates (including tags, labels, seals etc.,) in accordance with the provisions of the Seeds Act.
  • Undertake educational programmes designed to promote the use of certified seed.
